If you live in California, or visiting, then you could be able to buy recreational marijuana on January 5th, 2018 according to a report in the Los Angeles Times that ran on Wednesday.
The action could go 100% in full effect if the mayor quickly signs legislation approved by the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday. On Tuesday night, supervisors adopted regulations favored by cannabis advocates and rejected attempts to mandate a larger barrier between schools and marijuana stores as well as rejecting provisions that would have allowed neighborhoods to limit the number of marijuana shops or allow them to ban them outright.
City attorney spokesman John Cote says if San Francisco Mayor Ed Lee signs that same day then the legislation could go into effect on midnight on January 5th, 2018.
This will be an important storyline to follow for the next week because it has major implications on the state of recreational marijuana in California. It can be argued that no state is more vital to the success of the pro-legalization movement, or to the industry, than the state of California.
