Houston Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins is supportive of CBD Medication being allowed in the National Football League, stating that he all for unbanning the use of cannabidiol for pain purposes.
“I only think it would help if they do. You look at all the problems with heads. I don’t think it would hurt for us to try something else and see what can help players,” Hopkins said, according to a report from TMZ Sports.
Hopkins sentiments follow a landmark announcement last week that the BIG3 has approved the CBD medication for its players.
Marijuana use is currently banned by the NFL, and players who are caught using marijuana and/or marijuana related substances are subject to fines, suspensions and even bans in circumstances that involve repeat offenders. In fact, it can be argued that the NFL is harsher on those who are caught using marijuana than they are on those who commit actual crimes are are involved in domestic violence incidents.
NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell still stands against allowing marijuana, in any form, into the league.
“We’ve been studying that through our advisers,” Goodell said in 2017, according to ESPN. “To date, they haven’t said, ‘This is a change we think you should make that is in the best interest of the health and safety of our players.’ If they do, we’re certainly going to consider that. But to date, they haven’t really said that.”
